As a UCATT member you should be aware of changes to the B&CE Holiday Pay scheme that could affect your holiday pay now or in the future.
Historically, the construction industry operated a stamp scheme, which meant your holiday pay was guaranteed even if you moved from employer to employer.
In recent years this scheme has been computerised by the B&CE where employers pay into the industry scheme to secure your holiday pay. Currently no national insurance contribution is accounted for in your holiday pay.
The government is changing this process as they believe employers outside the construction industry were exploiting this system to save on National Insurance contribution and holiday pay has to be paid through the implementation of the Working Time Regulations 1998.
From October 30th companies who are outside construction industry will no longer be able to claim the concession. In Oct 2012 the concession will be removed for the construction industry.
You should be vigilant and keep in touch with your Regional Office and inform them of any changes to your holiday pay entitlement, and also any changes to company employment policy as this holiday pay concession is removed.
For further details contact your local UCATT regional office.
