The Northern Region of construction union UCATT has formed a unique partnership with the National Federation of Builders and Northern Counties Builders Federation to improve local health and safety.
John Scott, Regional Secretary of UCATT, said: “I am delighted the partnership project has come to fruition. Construction workers will be actively encouraged to become involved in health and safety, which will increase the safety of their working environment.”
UCATT will provide a Workers Safety Advisor to provide free services and support to companies and their employees on matters ranging from designing health and safety action plans, training workplace health and safety reps and other practical advice.
John Scott, also said: “This partnership arrangement comes on the back of our recent successful Train to Gain contract for UCATT in the North East to support our target of a qualified and registered construction workforce, the Construction Skills Certification Scheme, the qualification is a minimum of NVQ level two. UCATT can provide it free of charge to companies and individuals.”
John Scott, added: “At a time when the construction industry is claiming too many lives and witnessing far too many serious accidents it is important we remain focused on ways to improve health and safety and both of these initiatives can help and indeed will help.
