As of today (1 October 2007) the national minimum wage has increased. The new rates are:
Adult workers aged 22 and over - £5.52 (increased by 3.2% from £5.35)
Development Rate for 18 – 21 year olds - £4.60 (increased by 3.4% from £4.45)
Development rate 16-17 year olds - £3.40 (increased by 3.0% from £3.30)
In some circumstances, apprentices are exempt, Apprentices under age 19 will do qualify for the national minimum wage and apprentices over age 19 and in the first 12 months of their apprenticeship do not qualify either.
