UCATT Education and Training

Our aims are:

To create a range of education and training services to benefit individual and potential members.

To market and promote UCATT to companies, members and potential members – to "build the brand".

To participate in national and regional initiatives and extend UCATT’S range of influence.

To build effective and practical working partnerships with companies, Learning and Skills Councils, CITB, the TUC and government to secure funding and create opportunities for training construction workers.

To use training to develop the full-time staff of UCATT.

On-site Assessment and Training (OSAT)

On-site assessment is an innovative training initiative launched by the CITB and supported by UCATT. It is targeted at construction workers who have skills, experience and training but no formally recognised qualifications. The OSAT process confirms existing worker skills and tests what they can do in the workplace and delivers NVQ’s with a minimum of disruption.

The benefits are that:-

  1. Employees of all ages and abilities can be trained for a nationally recognised qualification.
  2. Employers benefit from productive work while training is in progress.
  3. Existing skills, everyday tasks and routine training are used as evidence for qualifications.
  4. Workers are able to protect themselves and fellow workers in terms of health and safety, but gain better protection in terms of their future employment.

The Construction Industry Training Board, employers, government agencies, Learning and Skills Councils/Colleges are involved in developing the OSAT system. At a regional and national level UCATT pursue strategic partnership developments to ensure continuing commitment and delivery of the OSAT programme.
